Privacy

Short version: we count visits so we can see which episodes people actually find, and we keep your email address if you ask for the newsletter. We don't sell anything to anyone, and we never will.

What we collect

Two things, and that's it.

Anonymous visit data. We use Google Analytics to see how the site gets used. That covers which pages get opened, roughly where in the world you are (city level, from your IP address), what kind of device and browser you're on, where you arrived from, and how long you stayed. It doesn't tell us your name, your address, or who you are.

Your email address, but only if you give it to us. If you sign up for the newsletter, we store your address with Kit, the service that sends the emails. That's the only personal detail we hold.

Why we collect it

To make the show and the site better. Knowing that a particular episode brings people in, or that most visitors are on a phone, changes what we make and how we build this. That's the whole purpose.

What we don't do with it:

We don't sell it. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
We don't rent, trade or share it with third parties for their marketing.
We don't build advertising profiles or run ads on this site.
We don't try to work out who you are as an individual.

The data is for us, internally, to understand what's working. Nothing else.

Cookies

Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser so it can tell a returning visit from a new one. If you'd rather it didn't, you have options:

Block or clear cookies in your browser settings.
Install Google's Analytics opt-out add-on, which stops it across every site you visit.
Turn on Do Not Track or similar privacy settings in your browser.

The site works exactly the same either way. Nothing is gated behind accepting anything.

The newsletter

If you subscribe, you'll get an email when a new episode goes up, and occasionally something else worth reading. Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom, and it works immediately. We won't email you about anything you didn't sign up for, and we won't pass your address to anybody else.

Services we use

A few third parties handle data on our behalf. Each has its own privacy policy:

Google Analytics — site statistics
Kit — newsletter delivery
Netlify — website hosting

Embedded YouTube thumbnails load from Google's servers, so Google sees the request. Clicking through to YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts or any social platform puts you under their privacy policies, not ours.

Your choices

Unsubscribe using the link in any email we send.
Ask us to delete your email address and we'll remove it. Write to peter@moampod.com.
Ask what we hold on you and we'll tell you.

No forms, no hoops. Just email and ask.

Children

This site and the podcast are made for adults. We don't knowingly collect anything from children under 13.

Changes

If this changes, we'll update the date at the top. Substantial changes will be mentioned in the newsletter.
